  • Many Matte Blue Parts

Slowly but surely pieces are coming back in from the painter. Chad now has his annual “matte blue parts puzzle” to reassemble. I’m going to let myself believe that he really enjoys it. 🙂

  • Almost there!

Not quite done, but its all down to the little details now. We still have 7 days before the dragon, so its all good. This will ensure it doesn’t get dinged up in the parking lot at work before we get to share it with the MINI world!

  • Tires on Wheels Yokohama ADVAN Neova

We have tires! Chad is putting on his ‘gently’ used ADVAN Neova AD08 Yokohama Extreme Performance Summer tires on my fancy new wheels. In typical Detroit Tuned fashion, the balancing weights got the blackout treatment so that we don’t have any shiny on the outside, even if its inside the wheels. If you’re wondering I preferred the Yokohamas over comprable Dunlop Direzza ZIIs because of the tread pattern. #Details

  • Details

Spent several hours at Detroit Tuned tonight (and at least one of them was actually helping) Car is coming together nicely, enjoyed some good company and a rousing game of “Cards Against Humanity”.

I am most excited now to see the engine back together, in its matching powder coated goodness.

The Redline Leather door wraps actually match up really nicely to the new blue, I’m very happy.

  • April progress

Chad has been very busy (as always). Just a comparison of how it looks a few months ago to now. A little different! The cowl scoops look absolutely amazing! They were just black before, now matte blue with black insides.

  • Blue Boot

From the rear, it almost looks done! WOOOO!

  • Detroit Tuned is busy

Checked on the car this Saturday at Detroit Tuned. The wheels are much better looking in person, I was really worried that they were silverish. I was so used to the flat black.

Chad continues to make progress and continues to amaze me with his attention to detail. Each bolt gets wire brushed then cleaned, then a coat or two of paint, and then a day to dry before being put back on.

  • Clean Up

Chad has really been busy. Starting the interior tear down and clean up so reassembly can begin in ernest. We disagreed over what color the speaker surrounds should be. I want (and will have) black, and he was thinking they should have been blue.
Thankfully, as of now, I’m still getting final say. I hope we are still friends after its all done. 😉

Please enjoy these update photos. The blue is still AWESOME. I know have the correct size for my custom color label.

  • New Wheels DxR racing

After what seems like forever, 30+ wheels considered, pinterest board created just so I could see them all together, I decided on new rims.
They are DxR ST12s, which seems to be a non-brand, and made in China. Seeing as I am want to get new rims almost as often as my brother gets different cars, I’m not to worried about the quality. If they bend, they bend, they were inexpensive and I really like the way they look.
They are bronze now, but will be powder coated black. They weigh about 19lbs each which is on the lighter end of wheels that I was considering.

  • Powder coated engine bits

The engine/engine bay components came back from the powder coater yesterday.
They were intended to be black chrome, my thoughts were something close to the M7 Anniversary Strut Brace, but a bit darker.

What came back is much more gun metal colored, and much less chromy than expected. Which I have to admit I like better than what I had requested. All the parts are a nice shiny deep gray, and the way the powder coat went on, they get darker toward the edges, which creates a really cool look. They are actually sort of steampunk looking the way the color blends.

Of course in typical Detroit Tuned fashion, Chad did way more than what I was expecting, which is going to make it that much cooler! Just seeing everything that was a mixed bag of aluminum, chrome, and other metal all matching was awesome. Cannot WAIT to see it all together. The photos don’t really do the part justice.
