  • Detroit Electric Blue?

Detroit Electric has revealed a picture of their first model, which looks awesome! But the color looks all too familiar.

Don’t get me wrong, this thing is sweet looking, and I doubt very much they looked at my minuscule blog and stole the color. Maybe something around here just says “Cars should be blue.” I know a lot of people that would agree.

  • April progress

Chad has been very busy (as always). Just a comparison of how it looks a few months ago to now. A little different! The cowl scoops look absolutely amazing! They were just black before, now matte blue with black insides.

  • Blue Boot

From the rear, it almost looks done! WOOOO!

  • Mirror Cap Options

Black or Blue mirror caps? That is the question, pretty sure I know the answer, but I want to see in person.

  • Detroit Tuned is busy

Checked on the car this Saturday at Detroit Tuned. The wheels are much better looking in person, I was really worried that they were silverish. I was so used to the flat black.

Chad continues to make progress and continues to amaze me with his attention to detail. Each bolt gets wire brushed then cleaned, then a coat or two of paint, and then a day to dry before being put back on.

  • DxR Wheels Powder Coated

The new DxR wheels have been powder coated black. I will get to see them in person tomorrow. The photos make them look a bit ‘not’ black, but in the comparison pic between them and the old Focal F-05s they do look black. Hoping they are!

  • Will will make it faster, stronger

Reassembly has begun in earnest. I quite enjoy the fact that one of the first things to be “put back on” is the updated matte blue Detroit Tuned windshield banner. Important things at the beginning! 😉

DxR Wheels are no longer bronze, might even be black by the end of the week.

  • Clean Up

Chad has really been busy. Starting the interior tear down and clean up so reassembly can begin in ernest. We disagreed over what color the speaker surrounds should be. I want (and will have) black, and he was thinking they should have been blue.
Thankfully, as of now, I’m still getting final say. I hope we are still friends after its all done. 😉

Please enjoy these update photos. The blue is still AWESOME. I know have the correct size for my custom color label.

  • Detroit Blue

It’s painted! And WOW. I knew it was going to be cool looking, but its absolutely beautiful.
The way the light reflects on the matte paint is incredible. Chad suggested naming the color, as of now I’m thinking Detroit Blue.

The pictures don’t do it justice. Its SO BLUE! =D

  • Powder coated engine bits

The engine/engine bay components came back from the powder coater yesterday.
They were intended to be black chrome, my thoughts were something close to the M7 Anniversary Strut Brace, but a bit darker.

What came back is much more gun metal colored, and much less chromy than expected. Which I have to admit I like better than what I had requested. All the parts are a nice shiny deep gray, and the way the powder coat went on, they get darker toward the edges, which creates a really cool look. They are actually sort of steampunk looking the way the color blends.

Of course in typical Detroit Tuned fashion, Chad did way more than what I was expecting, which is going to make it that much cooler! Just seeing everything that was a mixed bag of aluminum, chrome, and other metal all matching was awesome. Cannot WAIT to see it all together. The photos don’t really do the part justice.
